I stumbled across this video the other day from the Dior 2019 Pre-Fall Men’s Show. Since taking the reigns at Dior, Kim Jones has worked with some incredible collaborators already – most notably working closely with KAWS for his first season. In 2019 Jones worked with Artist Hajime Sorayama on an incredible sculpture to take centre stage for the show.

Hajime Sorayama is a Japanese artist best known for his erotic depictions of feminine robots describing his style as “superrealism”. Sorayama has a rich history in fashion and has collaborated with brands like Stussy and Huf in the past as well as numerous other brands and creatives. The video above shows the construction of the huge sculpture used for the show alongside an interview with Hajime which is perfect if you speak Japanese. It’s pretty impressive to see the sculpture being constructed. The video almost feels somewhat post apocalyptic, as though the robot could take life and start to take over the planet.

Check out the video in full above and let us know what you think down in the comments below. Are you familiar with Hajime’s work already? It’s amazing to see Kim work with so many great creative towards his collections with Dior, the brand has really gone from strength to strength since he took charge. Kim takes really subtle cues from streetwear fashion and culture and injects it into his high fashion offering and was responsible for the collaboration with Louis Vuitton and Supreme whilst he was still at L.V.
